For the year ending March 2005, cigarette revenues had the honour of crossing a milestone by reaching Rs.100.02 billion; this amounted to 69% of the total turnover (including inter segment revenue). In terms of profits, the ratio is even more staggering. The PBIT (Profit Before Interest and Tax) of the cigarettes business stood at Rs.22.88 billion; nearly 88% of ITC’s total PBIT; this, when the other businesses are yet to break-even!...
